Parks and Rec fans need to calm the fuck down.

We get it. It’s a great show, that’s not the issue here. But you guys are freaking out about a five week break in April, like Community fans were freaking out about the indefinite hiatus when you have zero, absolutely no reason to. Here’s why:

  • First off, difference between definite and indefinite: you know it’s going to be five weeks right off the bat. And it’s definitely coming back because NBC has to air something once they run out of episodes of Up All Night in mid April because May sweeps is where TV gets its most ratings and, thus, most advertising money. (And they have to air Up All Night because they committed to it, and there’s really no other place for it.) From November until this morning, Community fans did not know when it the show would come back.
  • It probably was going to take a break anyway because mid-March/April is mostly repeats land because networks are trying to save new episodes for May sweeps. (This will most likely help Community as that’s what it’s going up against when it returns.)
  • When it comes back it has a pretty great time slot (9:30 after The Office) when it comes back during the time most people are watching TV. Admittedly, NBC fucked up by not keeping it there when during fall where it aired Whitney instead, but hey, Community has a return date, and they’re putting Parks where it made the most sense last year so, better late than never? This move puts Parks in a better position to get bigger ratings and thus get renewed for a fifth season. (Oh, and by the way, after Community did so “poorly” (30 Rock’s failing to maintain a similar audience thus far has shown that anything you put in there will fail, apparently) in its time slot and cause the fucker upper of this whole mess, Bob Greenblatt to both remove it from the schedule and flat out said, “I don’t know if it makes sense to ask it to start off the night again,” guess what timeslot it has?)

It would’ve been nice to have new Parks with it. I remember the days when there was a new Community, Parks, and Archer every Thursday and it was glorious. But the repeat weeks were the worst, so if waiting a bit means five solid weeks for new stuff of both, then so be it.
